Wild Herbs in the Garden

Any one who has ever grown herbs knows how easy it is to have wild herbs in the garden! Plant herbs in free soil where they’re roots can travel and travel they will! An herb garden is a wonderful addition to any garden, and any level of gardener can soon see satisfying results and be able to use the herbs in their kitchen, but an experienced gardener knows that herbs will soon take over the free soil unless they have their roots restricted in some way. Of course if you need an abundance of any particular herb, buy a plant from your local garden nursery in a piece of otherwise empty soil – and watch it expand!

One of the best ways to do this is to grow herbs in plant containers. This means that they can grow and fill out the container, but they can’t fill out the garden! You can grow either one herb per pot, or have several smaller pots of herbs in a larger container.

Herbs are beautiful addition to any garden. They’re colorful, have a fascinating number of different appearances, and of course the scent is lovely. Herbs are also practical, whether you use the herbs in your cooking freshly hacked from the garden, or whether you harvest the herbs as they come into season, and dry them for later use. Herbs give you a constant supply of seasonings for your table.

Preserving Herbs for Cooking

You can either dry them out and use the herbs dried, or you can freeze them. Different herbs needed treated in different ways. Some of them respond better than others to freezing techniques. In your first year of growing herbs experiment and see which methods give you the best results, and which way doesn’t destroy a lot of the herb’s flavor.
