Which Tomato Varieties are Best for Growing?

There are many different tomato varieties on the market these days. Pick up a seed catalog or check out the young tomato plants at your local garden nursery and see which varieties are suggested to grow best in your type of soil. That’s the varieties which will grow best for you. Then decide which of these varieties produce the kinds of tomatoes you enjoy eating, and then pick one of these as your tomato variety for this season.

You could even pick a couple of different varieties and plant different types of tomato. With the yellow tomatoes now becoming as popular as the red ones, you’ll have a splash of color in the tomato growing area of your garden!

What do you do with Your Tomatoes?

Another thing to consider when choosing your variety of tomato seeds or plants is what you will do with them after they ripen. Do you preserve them for the winter? Do you can, or freeze your tomatoes? If so, you’ll need a variety that will assure you of a bumper crop of average sized tomatoes. On the other hand, if you use them when they’re fresh off the tomato vine in salads etc, then perhaps some variety of cherry tomato will work best for you. Beef tomatoes are expensive in the stores because of their weight, so if you enjoy eating these, you could consider trying to grow a couple of plants and see how they work in your soil.

Tomatoes come in many varieties and each has certain characteristics. Take the time to select the right one for your requirements and soil type, keep them watered and you should have a great tomato harvest in the late summer.
