Since The Beginning of Man, Sowing Seed Has Become a Growing ProfessionIn the beginning, primitive man didn’t know much about sowing seed. He survived only on what Mother Nature provided. When the food supply ran out, if man couldn’t find more -- he starved. It wasn’t until he noticed that food grew from seed, that seed came from food and that he could sow seeds to get more food. So, man got smart and he sowed. Sowing seeds, then, became the first occupation of civilized man. Today, some say that man is more un-civilized— but his knowledge about seeds has progressed. Man no longer has to wait for nature to supply him with seed. Now, he has seed catalogs. And he has garden supplies companies that provide him with seed packets for every kind of plant, flower or vegetable that grows! The More Man Sowed, the More Did He ReapNow man knows the productivity of land, in the region where he lives and its yield in different seasons. He developed his knowledge of planting zones: what seeds to sow when. In the process of sowing seeds, he realized there were some seed varieties that could withstand weather and fight insects better than others. Today, many seed envelopes have this type of information printed right on them. It’s a reliable aid in seed sowing to help man choose the best varieties that will give 100% yields. A seed packet also gives other details: the best time of year for sowing seeds, the type of crop that will harvest, climate, fertilizers, moisture, sunlight and more. However, what information is not on the front of the seed packet will usually be found in the directions on the back of the packets. Now, if we could only get man to ask for the directions! |
