There are different techniques of planting seeds for growing vegetables of different kinds

When you’re planting seeds, there are different methods depending on the vegetable. Growing vegetables of different sizes and varieties can each be more successful with the various ways of planting seeds. When growing vegetables, it pays to take the time to plant your vegetable seed properly. The following are some of the ways to plant:

  • random sowing
  • transplants
  • seed strips
  • furrow planting

The first method for planting seeds is random sowing. When growing vegetables like lettuce, that are quite leafy, the seeds can just be sprinkled across the soil and then covered with a thin layer of soil. Sprinkle just enough to cover them up. When you water them, be careful not to use too much water or they can wash away.

The next method for planting seeds is transplants. These are growing vegetables that are transplanted into the garden once they have established themselves, whether indoors, in a greenhouse, or at the nursery. This method works best in cooler climates with a shorter growing season. Seeds can be started before the last frost and then transplanted once the weather warms up enough.

Another technique for planting seeds can save a lot of time when growing vegetables.

Another method of planting seeds is to use seed strips. Seed companies sell paper strips with tiny seeds like carrots or radishes attached. These strips can be planted directly in the ground. When the paper decomposes, you’ll be left with growing vegetables. This can be a much quicker way of planting your garden.

The fourth way of planting seeds is called furrow planting. You can use a shovel or garden hoe to make a straight furrow, or channel, in the soil. Plant your seeds every few inches, depending on the size of the plant, and then recover the furrow. Just make sure you leave enough room between row to walk and maintain your garden once the plants are fully grown.

Some vegetables work better by planting seeds certain ways. If you order your seeds from seed companies, they’ll be able to tell you the best way for growing vegetables from those seeds. Take a look at our seed companies page for some recommended sources.
