You can either plant seeds or vegetable plants when starting your vegetable garden

Will your garden be more successful if you plant seeds or vegetable plants? Either way will work well if you plant properly, but if you plant seeds it can be a little more work. Starting your garden from vegetable plants means someone else – your local nursery, an internet seed company or other source – has done the work of planting and nurturing the seeds.

If you would like to start your garden from scratch and plant seeds, in most climates you will need to start them indoors or in a greenhouse. Once the average date of last frost has passed, you can move the vegetable plants into your garden. If there is frost after you move them to the garden plants – with a few exceptions – can be damaged.

One vegetable that works fine if planted before the last frost is seed potatoes. You can plant seeds potatoes before the last frost date, but they will not start to grow until the soil is the right temperature. This is one of the few vegetable plants that will withstand frost.

When you plant seeds instead of vegetable plants, you can have a little more control.

When you plant seeds to start your vegetable garden, you can have a little more control over things. If you saved your own seeds from the previous year, you can be fairly sure of what kind of results you’ll get, based on the previous season. When you’re planting vegetable plants, you don’t really know for sure what kind of results you’ll get. This is why it is important to get your plants from a reputable seed company and use quality products such as Scott’s Fertilizer in your garden.

A vegetable garden can be a great hobby. How much time and effort you put into it is really up to you. Whether you would prefer to start from scratch and plant seeds or save a little time by using vegetable plants, you can enjoy a fresh, tasty harvest at the end of the season.
