You can make your own organic fertilizer with your backyard compost piles

The simplest definition of organic fertilizer is a fertilizer that doesn't contain any kind of chemicals, but only natural ingredients. Compost piles are one of the easiest and least expensive ways to create your own organic fertilizer. Not only that but your compost piles can be an environmentally friendly way of recycling waste.

Things like yard and kitchen waste can be turned into organic fertilizer if you throw them on your compost piles. Grass clippings, vegetable clippings, leaves and many other things will make great organic fertilizers.

By using your own organic fertilizer every year, your compost piles won't grow too big.

If you add the organic fertilizer from your compost piles to your garden each year, it will keep your garden healthy and keep your pile to a minimum. This way, once you decide how much space to dedicate to composting, you'll be able to manage it and not have to keep enlarging it.

If you're buying organic seeds or keeping your own seeds from year to year, organic fertilizer will keep your garden all-natural. Even if you don't have your own compost piles, you can buy organic fertilizers. We've got a few recommended sources on our fertilizer page.
