For A Winter Hobby Greenhouses Are HubbyÕs First ChoiceWhat’s hubby do for a hobby every winter when he gets frozen out of his garden? Why, he takes his hobby to his greenhouse, of course. Hobby greenhouses are a perfect way of extending gardening months to cover the entire year. A hobby greenhouse is actually nothing more than a scaled down version of its bigger brother. The miniature greenhouse, also referred to as a mini greenhouse, lets you grow plants, flowers and vegetables earlier in the spring and extend the growing season well into the fall! They also allow early planting of seeds, protect tender plants, force cuttings to root faster and let you grow many kinds of plants that normally wouldn't grow in your area. Greenhouse kits come in sizes as tall as the 5-foot crouch-over size or as small as the 3 feet high table top model. All with the same protective features as the big guys. All greenhouse designs trap heat by admitting sunlight during the day through its transparent covering and retaining heat radiated from the surrounding soil during the cold night hours. They also trap moisture inside the structure cutting down on watering chores. The ideal location for greenhouses is southeastern with a slight slope to maximize solar exposure. Sheltered with a wall or hedge to the north will protect against winter winds. Sinking the greenhouse frame into the ground will also provide insulation.
