An Herb Seed Kit Comes Complete With Everything but the Pot

Take your choice. You can get whatever kind of an herb seed kit you want containing the herbs most people want to grow. Seasonings, medicinals or teas—or any combination thereof. What herbs aren’t in the kit, you can supply yourself from your favorite seed companies. Typical herb starter kits supply you with seeds, soil, moss or peat, and sometimes a pot to put the peat in. But, most likely, you’ll have to find your own pot to peat in.

Herb gardening, with seed kits, is one of the easiest kinds of gardening there is, even for the beginner. You don't need herb farm experience. You don’t need acres of space. To have a successful herb garden, even a window box on a bright windowsill will do. If you don’t have that, pot them and put them right on the counter-top. Indoor bright lights will work too. And, if you’re growing culinary herbs, you’ll want them at arms length right in the kitchen with you.

Though most kits are designed for culinary purposes, there are more spiritual uses for many other herb kits. Freshly picked herbs of the medicinal and tea variety-- can do wonders for you spiritually. There’s a feeling of being closer to nature when you can grow anything yourself. And an uplifting feeling of being able to live off the fruit, herbs in this case, of the land.

Here are some of the most-widely grown herbs and their uses in recipes:

  • Basil- used in Italian recipes, puts the pesto into pasta
  • Sage- flavors dressings, vegetables and poultry
  • Thyme- seasons sandwiches and salads
  • Chives- for soups, salads and cottage cheese
  • Horseradish- gives fish a bite
  • Parsley- improves taste of potatoes and chops
