Greenhouse Polycarbonate Is Just A Fancy Way To Say ŇAt Last, No Glass!ÓJust a few years ago, before the age of polymers and plastics, that’s all greenhouses were made of—glass! There was just nothing else invented yet that could let the light in and keep the heat from getting out. Except glass. But, glass panes broke, not only during the process of assembling and cleaning—but from hail, rocks and baseballs. Until the greenhouse polycarbonate came into view, glass breakage costs per greenhouse every year went through the roof. Polycarbonates changed everything. Polycarbonate is unbreakable against hail, rocks and baseballs. It’s virtually kid-proof! Unlike glass, because it’s lightweight and ribbed-- it provides a diffused, UV protecting light as well. This even further enhances plant growth and helps aid in temperature control. Another advantage of this innovative greenhouse equipment is that it has an insulating effect, making greenhouse conditions more stable and creating a better growing habitat. Sometimes, twice as much of a good thing yields double the results. And often, double sheets of polycarbonate as available as standard equipment on greenhouses requiring extra protection. These twin-wall polycarbonate sheets are constructed with top and bottom layers connected by ribbed channels. This air layer between the two provides even more insulation compared to single layer sheets. So, you know the saying, "people who live in glass (green)houses, shouldn’t…" And that’s exactly right. Here’s why they shouldn’t:
