Garden Planters as Decor

If you are a consummate gardener, indoors and out, carefully chosen garden planters can reflect your personality and gardening style. Objects not originally meant to be planters can turn into plant containers and add the unexpected to your dˇcor. Indoor garden planters bring some greenery to the home, while outdoor planters can be part of your overall landscape design.

Container gardening is a fun and practical way to divide up your garden projects and double them as decorative accents, whether you are planting vegetable seeds, culinary herbs, or flowers.

What to Keep in Mind When Planting

When using non-traditional containers for planting, be sure the plant has a way to drain. If the container itself does not have drainage holes, you can place the plant in another thin plastic container with holes and then remove that container each time you water the plant. If the plant cannot drain, then it will become waterlogged, bacteria will build up, and eventually the plant will begin to fade.

Planting in garden containers should not prevent you from gardening as you would normally in terms of using fertilizer and weeding. The containers can sit on the periphery of your garden for an attractive visual, adorn your wooden deck, or line the sidewalk leading up to your home.

Garden planters come in so many different materials, such as fiberglass, polyresin, ceramic, plastic, and even straw and woven rope. Copper containers from Turkey can double as striking planters and add a flashy accent to your room. Wooden garden containers work well too provided they do not get too wet, which would encourage mold growth.

You can find both decorative and practical garden containers at garden supply stores, home and department stores, and from companies that sell garden and home items online.
