Your garden planning doesnŐt end with planning the layout

There are other aspects of garden planning to consider beyond simply your garden layout. There are things such as what you want to grow, how much time you can spend on your garden, pest control and more. These are all part of garden planning – some should even be considered before planning your garden layout.

The first, and possibly most important, step in garden planning is deciding what you want to grow and why. When you’re starting a garden, you should think about what vegetables you would like to grow. Why you’re growing them is important too. If you’re growing them to eat, make sure you choose vegetables that you like. Your garden layout won’t matter much if you don’t plan these kind of details first.

Once the preliminary planning is done, your garden planning can move onto the garden layout.

When doing your garden planning, consider the sizes and locations of your vegetables. If your garden layout isn’t planned ahead, it can end up being an off-the-cuff job that ends up being counterproductive. As an example, if you’re planting a vegetable that grows quite tall, you don’t want to plant a low-growing vegetable where the larger one will block its sunlight.

Another part of garden planning is deciding how and where you will be able to maneuver when working in the garden. It’s best to plan a vegetable garden layout with room between the rows to walk and work when maintaining your plants.

Planting zones are also important to your garden planning. These zones will help you to decide when you can plant various vegetables. There are plenty of resources on the internet to get information about your planting zone, or check with your local nursery. This is another factor that has less to do with the physical garden layout but is still very important.
