Garden Furniture for Every Style“A small garden, figs, a little cheese, and, along with this, three or four good friends—such was luxury to Epicurus.” So said German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. Such an inviting scene begs for just the right garden furniture to entertain those friends. Every gardener is a bit of an exhibitionist, and what better way to show off your carefully tended beds then with delightful furniture. Assess your garden design before you rush out and buy the latest models at the trendiest garden stores. Buy something that will endure both the years and your changing tastes. What type of furniture suits you best? Maybe it’s simple plastic chairs that can stay out year-round. Or you might like wrought-iron, or ornate cushions. Teak or cedar designs give a rustic feel, and garden-specific styles match with the natural scenery. Furniture made for the outdoors can usually withstand a bit of weather, but be sure to read the instructions and care for your pieces so they last a while. Add a Room to Your House – in Your GardenWith the right furniture for your garden, you can almost design and create an additional room to your home. Add a furniture style or design that you love but can’t blend with the house interior. Make it comfortable with a table and chairs, and accessorize with plants, lights, and other decorative items. Even add a chaise lounge for late afternoon naps. Arrange the furniture pieces so they receive shade from the sun part of the day. Place your new furniture in a corner to show off your vegetable garden. Arrange it next to the flower garden and add stepping stones or a rock border. Blend the arrangement in with some garden accessories. If you enjoy container gardening, you may want to create a patio with potted plants interspersed among the furniture. Most garden supply stores carry a small variety of designs, and more furniture designs can be ordered through a catalog or online. |
