Bring Magic into Your Yard with Garden Decorations

A garden is a fantastic and magical place. From hard, dry earth has sprung a wealth of green plants, multicolored flowers, ripe fruits, and crisp vegetables. Whether a garden is designed to be decorative or functional, it can be a special place to spend time. And adding garden decorations can really enhance the atmosphere of a garden.

Garden ornaments come in all shapes and sizes. They can be custom-made, store-bought, or home-made. They can be abstract, like gazing balls or geometric sculptures. They can be realistic, like statues of people, angels, or animals.

The Choice You Make

When selecting garden decor, you have a choice between purely ornamental and functional items. Practical decorations blend form and function. They add beauty and accomplish tasks. Perhaps the most frequently used are decorative plant containers. But it doesn’t stop there. Some statues are actually sprinklers. Some act as hose anchors. There is an endless array of decorative lighting, both solar and wired. There are even ornamental compost bins. Gardeners supply stores and gardening catalogs often have many of these items for sale.

If function isn’t a necessity, your options are wide open. Almost anything can be used to decorate your garden. For best results, choose items which are intended for garden ornament. They will stand up to weather and soil better. But anything weather resistant, or which can be modified to be weather resistant, can add a decorative flair to your garden.

You can stay within a particular theme to add continuity and cohesiveness to a garden which is formal and structured. This would mean using decorations with similar colors or constructed of the same materials. For a more colorful or randomly designed garden, a more eclectic mix of ornaments can be used. Themes can still be effective, though. A frog theme can be unique and playful using frogs made of many different materials, in many colors and sizes.

Any decor, when well-planned, will add a special touch to an already special place. Let your garden be an escape from the world for your mind as well as your eyes.
