With So Many Flavored Pumpkin Seed Recipe, There Should Be More Halloweens!

Halloween is harvest time. That time of year when pumpkins and their seeds are most plentiful. After all the Jack o’ Lanterns have been made and their seeds taken out, that’s when people start taking out their old pumpkin seed recipes. The truth is that the flavored pumpkin seed recipe is available to prepare these snacky dishes all year long—and so are the pumpkin seeds!

In fact, growing pumpkins off-season has reached a point where some farmers grow pumpkins just for the seeds! And why shouldn’t they? It is exciting and satisfying to grow seeds that have been saved from last year's pumpkins. But if you are trying out pumpkin seed recipes be sure the seeds are dried in the air, not the oven. 

Drying seeds and roasting seeds are two different processes. To dry, carefully wash pumpkin seeds to remove the fibrous pumpkin stringy thingy’s. Then, leave seeds in the sun to dry. To roast, take dried pumpkin seeds, stir up with oil (1 teaspoon per cup of seeds) and roast in a preheated oven at 250 degrees F. for 10 to 15 minutes.

Pumpkins Are a Dime a Dozen Compared to the Value of the Seeds

Aside from the medicinal value from pumpkin seeds and pumpkin seed oil—seeds have many culinary uses. Seeds that are roasted and salted make a great healthful snack. And seeds used in recipes and combined with seasonings and spices, add flavor to any dish.

You’ll find recipes for many types of dishes using pumpkin seeds using cooking oils, butter and flavoring ingredients. There’s roasted pumpkin seeds with lemon juice added. Toasted pumpkin seeds laced with Worchester sauce. Pumpkin and nut mix spiced with chili and garlic powders. Umm, bet you can’t eat just one!
