When growing any kind of edible plants, organic fertilizers are the most natural way to goEdible plants, to state the obvious, are plants that you eat. If you grow them in anything but organic fertilizers, think about whether you would want to eat those edible plants that have been growing in it. Any non organic fertilizers could contain chemical ingredients that you probably wouldn't want near your food. When it comes to planting a garden, whether vegetables or other edible plants, there are many gardeners with strong feelings one way or the other in regards to organic fertilizers. Rather than try to justify one opinion over the other, I prefer to simply look at what I would personally want to use with food I'm going to eat. It was when growing and harvesting vegetables and other edible plants became highly commercialized that the non organic fertilizers became more and more widely used. They can, in some cases, bring faster growth but there are a number of people who have grown their gardens both ways, and with proper care organic gardening can be just as successful. The choices between growing your vegetables and other edible plants in organic fertilizers or chemical ones can also be an educational opportunity.Another advantage of growing your vegetables and edible plants in organic fertilizer is it can be a great educational opportunity. If you are gardening for kids in your family, it can be a chance to explain the difference between natural products and chemicals. So much of the snacks and food that are aimed at children are completely chemical, so you can make the connection with kids when gardening. Who knows, they might even start to eat their vegetables! |
