Designing a Corn Planter and Container Garden Layout for Your Garden

Pot up your corn planters and other vegetables and herbs for flavor and beauty using container gardening on the patio, deck, balcony or windowsill. Find a sunny spot and create corn planters in containers.

For Corn Plants That Look and Taste Great All Season Follow the Convenience of This Step by Step Gardening Guide:

  • When planning your garden design, select an area in your garden that has full sun and is close to a water source.
  • Ensure that the area you select is in full view of your kitchen or lounge room window so that you can see your containers at a glance and won’t forget about them (out of site out of mind!)
  • Put a chair or small bench adjacent to your containers to ease the strain on your back and knees when planting, tending and weeding. This will help you to enjoy your plants.
  • Visit your local garden center and select your plant container for both their decorative and practical aspects. Pick pots that will blend in well into your garden and match any themes (Mexican or Beach) that you have created. Also ensure that any pot you select has good drainage and will prevent root rot.
  • Arrange your pots around the chair, bench or other garden features such as a fountain, in a garden layout that will be easy to water and harvest. Put big pots for tall veggies including corn, in the rear, step down to another level for combinations of herbs and flowers, and finish with a shallow bowl for salad greens.
  • Fill pots with a good potting soil that gives your new plants the nutrients they need. Cut it with compost and bark shavings, and add some sand and a balanced fertilizer.
  • Pot plants together based on their demands. ie Salad greens such as celery and herbs such as basil need lots of water, grow fast and make excellent pot alliances.
  • Fertilize the pots every other week and harvest while the vegetables are small and the greens are tender.
